‘Tis the Season…

As I get ready to head up to Cape Cod to help out with the latest round of dogfish tagging, some exciting news popped up on Underwater Times.  A great white of impressive proportions was sighted off of Martha’s Vineyard today by a fisherman checking out a floating minke whale carcass.  Apparently the carcass was being scavenged by a great white that was nearly as large as the fisherman’s 23-foot boat, and was confirmed from photos by Mass DMF shark expert Greg Skomal to be larger than 18 feet.  For those keeping score at home, the largest great white ever positively measured was 21 feet in length.

In conclusion, I’ll be bringing my camera with me to Cape Cod.

Edit:  The Dorsal Fin has video up that features photos of the shark.
